Obituario al Dr. García Montalbán.

En las últimas semanas la llegada al hospital se ha convertido en un auténtico ritual: mascarillas, guantes, higiene de manos una y otra vez, no toques ese pomo de la puerta, … en fín, creo que mucha gente me entenderá si digo que llegar al hospital las actitudes rozan la paranoia y el sentimiento roza, por qué no decirlo, el miedo. Sí, miedo porque los sanitarios somos personas y tenemos familia y miedo, sí, mucho miedo.

Pero hoy no ha sido eso lo que he sentido al llegar al hospital. Un desagradable escalofrío me ha recorrido desde la cabeza hasta los pies al pisar el hospital donde un compañero se ha dejado la piel ayudando a los demás hasta dejarse la vida.

He sentido una desolación inmensa. Un gran vacío. Durante unos minutos he andado como un autómata, como un pollo sin cabeza, sin saber bien dónde dirigirme. Por momentos me daban ganas de volver a ir a la UCI a preguntarle a los compañeros cómo iba la cosa. Como si no acabara de creérmelo. De hecho, no soy capaz de creérmelo todavía. 

Hoy he sentido muy de cerca la certeza crueldad de esta maldita enfermedad. 

Una vida, sí, una sola, es un precio demasiado alto cuando ves que no es un número ni una estadística, ni una curva, ni un pico ni una meseta. 

Una vida menos y una familia más rota, desangelada. Y encima el inmenso dolor de ni siquiera poder acompañar a la familia en ese insoportable trance.

Puede sonar a tópico pero en este caso claramente no lo es.

Es un hombre afable, amable, simpático, divertido, educado, trabajador, compañero y no sé cuántas cosas buenas más (por cierto, ¿alguien tiene alguna foto de él algún recuerdo donde no estuviese riendo?). Es sí, porque la gente así nunca se va, siempre queda.

Estarás siempre en mi memoria, compañero. Aunque como cada lunes por la noche no vea tu semblante sonriente y no escuche de tu voz otra vez “niño, ¡cuánto tiempo sin verte!, ¿cómo está la cosa por ahí arriba?”, lo recordaré siempre.

Amigo, el dolor que me invade hoy es grande, pero no más grande que la suerte de haberte conocido.

Todo el mundo te quería, todo el mundo te llora. Puedes ahí arriba estar orgulloso del buen trabajo que has hecho aquí abajo. DEP

  9. Cuando he visto esta entrada del blog, he pensado: ¿seguro que es el Doctor Joaquín? Me atendió un par de veces en urgencias o tres. Recuerdo perfectamente una de ellas: yo estaba embarazada, de más o menos 12 semanas, me resfrié y tenía fiebre. Como buena madre primeriza me daba miedo tomar cualquier cosa y me planté en el hospital para que me viera alguien. Mi padre, que venía conmigo y conoce gente en todos lados, se encontró por el pasillo de urgencias a un celador que conocía de su hermandad. Al contarle porqué estábamos allí nos dijo: «no te preocupes, que te va a atender el mejor de los que hay aquí». Y eso me pareció. Transmitía paz, tranquilidad… «Es que como estoy embarazada, no me atrevo ni a tomar paracetamol», «Chiquilla, ¿y si vienes con algo más grave, dejamos que te mueras? estás embarazada pero esto puedes tomarlo». Y esas palabras las recuerdo tranquilizadoras, llenas de sentido común (del que yo andaba escasa en ese momento). Después de eso me atendió un par de veces más.

    Tenía razón ese celador: era el mejor, al menos, uno de ellos.

    Una tristeza enorme.
